Jónína – artist, aromatherapist, and retired visual arts teacher – is a goði (ceremonial leader) within the Ásatrú Association.
(literal translation)
“I declare the sanctity of the place, the sanctity of the human being, and the sanctity of the ceremony.
I speak the vow for harmony, for peace, for truce.
May the earth preserve peace, may the sky protect us from above, and may the sea keep watch around us.
Now, I will do what I know to be right and true.
May Freyr help me, and Njörd as well, and the mightiest of the Æsir*.”
Opening words by Jónína during a ceremony marking the spring equinox, Vorjafndægrablót, in the Borgarnes region, March 2025.
*In Norse mythology, the Æsir are the main group of gods associated with Óðinn (Odin), dwelling in the city of Ásgard. They coexist with two other groups of deities: the Dísir and the Vanir, the latter including Freyr and Njörd, gods of fertility (renewal) and the sea, respectively.
