Audio ISL - Tandri (blót) ENG

Jökull Tandri - employed in the restaurant industry - is a goði (ceremonial leader) within the Ásatrú Association.

(literal translation)

“I bring you beer, O apple tree of the battlefield*,
blended with strength and divine glory,
it is full of songs and runes of comfort,
of good magical charms and runes of joy.”

*Poetic metaphor meaning “warrior”

Chant by Tandri during a ceremony marking the spring equinox, Vorjafndægrablót, in the Hella region, March 2025.

This excerpt comes from the Sigrdrífumál, the “Words of Sigrdrífa”, in the Poetic Edda.
Sigrdrífa, a valkyrie, offers Sigurd a horn filled with mead to revive his memory and help him retain the teachings she imparts.

It is common for ceremonial leaders to adapt certain texts to fit modern society or to address the audience more directly. However, in this case, the original text was preserved.
